The Embassy in Collaboration with Indian Chamber of International Business (ICIB) planted trees at the garden of the Embassy in connection with the 2024 World Environment Day and H.E. P.M. Abiy Ahmed’s Green Legacy Initiative.
 
During the occasion, H.E. Ambassador Demeke Atnafu elaborated about the Green Legacy Initiative introduced by P.M. Abiy and its impact in the last four years, underlining 35 billion seedlings planted in 4 years by mobilizing more than 25 million residents nationwide.
 
He further underscored the Green Legacy Initiative addresses numerous interconnected goals, such as environmental protection, restoration of degraded natural resources, and combating desertification. By integrating agroforestry, urban greening, and water and soil resource management, this initiative reflects Ethiopia’s long-term commitment to combating climate change and environmental degradation.
 
Mr. Puneet Singh, Vice President North Region of ICIB, stated that the 2024 World Environment Day is being celebrates with focus on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience and he underscored the importance of planting trees to create sustainable environment.
 
At the end of the program diplomats and members of the chamber planted fruit-bearing seedlings.
